He leans in close to me to talk into my ear, his hand resting on my arm lightly. His voice is hypnotic, his touch dizzying.
Then he leans back, smiling slightly. It's his smile that brings a pain to my chest, a bittersweet reminder of what we had before but is now beyond our reach.
I can only nod to his words. Just before he turns away, I reach out and touch his arm.
He thinks I am saying goodbye.
That's not what I'm saying at all.
