I can barely breathe. I concentrate on drawing air slowly, trying not to faint.
I think I will remember this moment forever: the light shining through my window, the pain in my heart, this breathless feeling like I am about to choke.
I lean over and kiss him, very softly, on his cheek. It's all I can do to keep from taking him in my arms and falling into bits.
I move away again and he's scarcely moved. I have to refrain from touching him.
"Good night," I tell him, hearing the pain in my voice.
He looks up at me, and I close my eyes.
"Good bye," I whisper softly.
